Augmentation / Lip Enlargement / Lip Enhancement
For men and women who desire fuller more sexy lips or just want more definition to enhance their natural contour; lip enhancement is offered by the NYC Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. The lips are often seen as a symbol of sexuality and youthfulness. Full, symmetrical lips can be achieved by a variety of methods: lip augmentation, lip enlargement, or lip enhancement. The most simple non surgical way to enhance the lips is by using injectable materials. There are numerous injectables available each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Lip augmentation procedures increase the size of the lips to make them fuller and more attractive. The procedure is used to help women and men of all ages. The upper or lower lip may be treated singly, or both upper and lower lips may be augmented at the same time. Radiance: Injectable material which lasts 3-5 years. No skin testing required. No allergic reactions reported. Local anesthesia required prior to injection. Produces a fuller lip in one session. Recovery period of several days due to bruising and swelling. Silicone: Medical grade silicone can be used to augment or correct uneven lip contour. Results are permanent. No skin testing required. Requires local anesthesia prior to injection. Recovery period of several days due to bruising and swelling. Usually requires several sessions to achieve full augmentation. Fat transfers: Fat can be harvested from areas of the body such as the thighs or abdomen and then injected into the lips. This technique requires local anesthesia and can lead to a week of bruising and swelling. The results are semi-permanent as about one-half of the injected fat will be reabsorbed by 12 months. Collagen: Produced from cow protein. Requires skin testing to avoid allergic reactions. Results are temporary lasting about 3-4 months. Restylane: Hyaluronic acid derivative that does not require skin testing. Produces a lot of bruising, redness, inflammation and discomfort with several days of downtime. Results last about 6 months on average.
